Last Blog

My blog is finally complete!

Things I Have Learned

This semester, I have learned a lot of things. I learned how to create a trifold brochure, which was very interesting. I also learned how to use Excel, that was something that I knew nothing about. I also learned how to write in HTML code and what it stands for. I learned a lot more I just can't think of everything this moment. I really enjoyed my learning experience in EDM 310.

My Website

I have finally created my very own website. It was very difficult to do at first, but it all turned out to be a fun experience. My website is about my favorite female actress's. So feel free to check it out at http://www.johnstrange.com/edmtt930spring07/Crayton/

I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY!!!

I-Pods in the Classrooms

Apple enables educators to expand their curriculum to meet the mobile and media-rich learning styles of today’s students. iPod extends teaching and learning beyond the normal classroom hours, allowing students to easily and continuously learn. Many educators are already using IPod in their curriculum. In all, it’s a great way for educators to create, organize, and distribute content. All of which add new and exciting dimensions to learning. IPod allows educators to more easily engage and match the individual needs of diverse learners. It can be an essential tool in helping students acquire new skills and improve their academic achievement. With iPod, educational institutions can deliver better on the promise of preparing all learners for life in the 21st century.

Blogs in classrooms (K-12)

Many teachers have picked up the idea of using blogs in the classrooms. The education blog can be very powerful and useful technology tool for students and teachers alike. Although blogs have been around for years they have recently gained popularity. Blogs work well for students because they can be worked on at anytime, in any place with an Internet enabled computer. Blogs are highly motivating to students especially those who otherwise might not become participants in the classrooms.

Seymour Papert

Today Papert is considered the world's foremost expert on how technology can provide new ways to learn. He has carried out educational projects all over the world. He is also a huge participant in developing the most influential cutting edge opportunities for children to participate all over the world. Papert lives in Maine, where he has founded a small laboratory called the Learning Barn to develop methods of learning that are too far ahead of the times for large-scale. He has been named distinguished professor by the University of Maine.

He spends a large part of his time working in the Maine Youth Center in Portland, the state's facility for teenagers convicted of serious offenses. Papert's contributions go beyond the field of education. He is also a mathematician and is a cofounder with Marvin Minsky of the Artificial Intelligence Lab at MIT and a founding faculty member of the MIT Media Lab where he continues to work.

Spreadsheets

Paper based spreadsheets have been around for a long time. Basically they were being used for keeping records and for accounting. Spreadsheets has allowed teachers to adopt a middle course, compared to the extremes of fully coding an algorithm. Spreadsheets also concerns the absence of a number of desirable features, such as transportation of rows and columns, absence of regression lines on scatter graphs, and so on. All of these features are available in modern versions of spreadsheets such as Microsoft's Excel.

Using the spreadsheet as a platform, the student is lead to a position where they can write virtually a stand-alone program to support a simple or application, even from a position of little previous spreadsheet or computing experience. At the same time as spreadsheets, a number of computer packages have been developed that parallel business and educational applications. Spreadsheet assignments offer concrete ways to explore abstract concepts in mathematics and other subjects.

Fat Tuesday

This year I really enjoyed myself on Fat Tuesday. I was downtown early this year than any other year. My boyfriend and I spent the day with his family and mine. I basically ate all day. I had so much food to choose from. My favorite was the Bar-b-Que. I also did a lot of walking that day. I saw a lot of people that I know. I spent a lot of time talking to them. Finally the moment finally came what I have been waiting for the whole day. That was the Mammoth Parade, which started at three o'clock. That has always been my favorite parade. I catch so much at that particular parade, because I know a lot of people that be in that parade. I give all the candy and whatever else away to my cousins. After the parade that night I went home changed my clothes and I went to a Cabernet at the Midway Lounge. I had a wonderful time there also. I got home around two o'clock in the morning. This year was the best Fat Tuesday ever.

My Reflections on Blogging

My first three weeks of blogging was fine. I just never had anything to write about. Whenever it was time to post our daily blog in class my mind always went blank. I think that it would be good for students for students from grade K-12 to post blogs. Some kids are already blogging, they are blogging on the popular website Myspace.

MySpace is a web site with over a million people on there. There is a lot of negative ways that people blog on Myspace. One main reason some people put to much of their personal information on their blogs. Like I stated earlier I think blogging will be wonderful for students. I think it will allow the children to explore their self more freely.

Just Blogging

Last night I decided to keep my god daughter. That was the worst mistake I made. I was up all night with her. It seemed that every two hours she was awake. It started at 12 o'clock and lasted until 7 o'clock this morning. I learned a lesson form this experience, I will never keep her on a school night again.
